At each bi-annual European Society for Organ Transplantation (ESOT) Congress the Euroliver Foundation gives two Awards to young researchers who have made a valuable contribution in relation to the enlargement of the donor organ pool and the psychosocial aspects of organ donation and transplantation. The 2005-2013 recipients of these grants originated from Italy (Matteo CESCON, Tullia M. De FEO, Elisabetta BERTONI) , Japan (Yuji SOEJIMA), The Netherlands (Bernadette HAASE-KROMWIJK, Willij ZUIDEMA, Anthony C. Van KOOIJ) , Russia (Yan G. MOYSYUK) and Spain (David PAREDES) .
Unfortunately, Mr Herman TOB passed away from heart failure 20 years after his liver transplant. It is the explicit wish of Mrs. TOB and his two sons to continue the noble work of their husband and father and to again provide two grants at the ESOT 2015 Brussels congress.
The recipients of the EUROLIVER AWARDS were

"I would like to grow further in the field of transplantation with the aim of developing a career in Transplant Nephrology, managing renal transplant recipients and the growing numbers of patients who develop renal failure early and late after liver transplantation.
Given my involvement with the main ESOT activities, I would like to contribute to the development of educational, research and networking opportunities for young transplant professionals. I am also keen to promote the future of transplantation as a standalone specialty to meet the needs of young professionals who are interested in transplantation."

Topic of awarded project:
Our study aims to evaluate overall patient and graft survival in patients receiving liver transplantation alone (LTA) and combined-liver kidney transplantation (CLKT). This is the first study of its kind utilising the European registry. Beside the recognized risk factors for mortality in LTA patients, renal replacement therapy seems to be associated with reduced survival in this group.
